BYU Football Top 5 Sophomores
The 2022 season has come to an end with this season being a roller coaster. I am going to do four articles in January one for each class of the BYU football team this season. Starting with the Sophomores and the top 5 players from this 2022 Sophomore Class.
Ben Bywater LB
Ben Bywater 6’3 230lbs Linebacker. Bywater stepped up and helped the Cougar defense when they were struggling. He was also a big leader when Wilgar and Tooley went down. Bywater played in all 13 games, had 98 tackles, one sack, three interceptions one that was returned for a touchdown, and two pass breakups. He lead BYU in tackles this year. Had three games with 11 tackles. He will need to step up and be a big leader again this year as Wilgar has declared for the NFL Draft and Tooley is coming off yet another injury.
Keanu Hill WR
Keanu Hill 6’4 215lbs Wide Receiver. Playing all 13 games this season and had 572 yards on 36 receptions and seven touchdowns. Hill was another who stepped up big for the Cougars this season. Was seen making big plays on multiple occasions and leading the wide receivers when Romney and Nacua couldn’t play. He will be one of the starters as BYU transitions into the Big 12.
Tyler Batty DL
Tyler Batty 6’5 275lbs Defensive Lineman. Played in 12 games this past season and had 52 tackles, one sack and four quarterback hits. He was seen flying to the ball on multiple occasions and coming up big for the BYU football defense. He finished fifth in tackles amongst the BYU defense. Ready to come back and be a big leader on the line for the first Big 12 season.
Connor Pay C
Connor Pay 6’5 312lbs Center. The big leader up front to keep the quarterbacks feeling safe in the pocket. Played in 12 games this year not playing in the Liberty game. Has been big and will continue to be in the offensive plan for the Cougars.
Isaac Rex TE
Isaac Rex 6’6 250lbs Tight End. Rex has had some tough years for BYU football and now is finally fully healthy to compete to his full potential. He played in all 13 games this season had 320 reception yards on 22 receptions and six touchdowns. When he was on the field most of the time he was blocking or when needed leaping defenders. Rex will hopefully be a big part of the offense for BYU Football next season.
