The California Golden Bears had a disappointing season in the last year of the Pac-12. They had a losing record overall and in the conference. In order to compete in 2024, they needed to get some talent to come to the program. California got a big boost when former Notre Dame wide receiver Tobias Merriweather committed to the program on Thursday.

Merriweather had 14 receptions for 284 yards and two touchdowns in the 2023 season. He didn’t see the huge numbers that you would expect out of a 6-foot-4 receiver. He is hoping that a different offense will unlock his potential. Merriweather will have two years of eligibility left and will help reload the Golden Bears offense. They will need to make sure that they are on top of their game as they are moving to a new conference in 2024.

Move To The ACC

The Golden Bears will get a full ACC schedule next season and they have to play some of the league’s best. They will have to travel to Florida State late in the season and also have a much-improved Syracuse team on the schedule. In their non-conference slate, a road game against the Auburn Tigers will give them an early opportunity to pull off an upset. 2024 will be new for a lot of teams as conference realignment takes effect.

Can the California Golden Bears rebound in 2024? Getting Merriweather is a huge boost and will hopefully give them a threat on the outside.
