Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson threw the ball well during Thursday's practice and is on track to start Saturday against Wisconsin, interim Husker head coach Mickey Joseph said.

"The last three days have been enough for me to see," Joseph said of Thompson's progress this week.

Thompson has missed the last 2½ games with an injury that affected his grip on the football. During his absence, Nebraska has scored just one touchdown.

Joseph said Thompson's return should provide a boost in confidence as the Huskers go up against the "solid, solid defense" of Wisconsin. "We gotta execute to move the ball on these people," he said.

Thompson's experience should allow him to pick up where he left off despite his limited practice time, Joseph said. "It's not his first rodeo," he said.

Joseph said the team practiced with "a lot of energy" Thursday. "We talked about it this morning that we have to put a 60-minute game together in all three phases and let's try to do that. I think if we do that, we are going to be able to get in there and compete and it will help us win the game. But we have to put 60 minutes in all three phases."
