College Football Playoff rankings: Florida State back into top four, Ohio State falls

The Georgia Bulldogs held onto to their No.1 ranking in the latest College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, but there were some other big changes within the top four.

Michigan jumped up one spot to No. 2 following its huge win over Ohio State on Saturday, while the Buckeyes dropped all the way down to the No. 6 spot.

That allowed Washington to move to the No. 3 spot, while Florida State was able to move back into the top four thanks to its win over Florida.

Here is a look at the complete rankings.

The big winner in this is Florida State as it would appear to be in control of its own fate with the committee if it can simply take care of business against Louisville in the ACC Championship game.

If it does that the Seminoles will be 13-0, and there does not seem to be a way they would fall out of the top four, even without starting quarterback Jordan Travis available.

The winner of Oregon and Washington in the Pac-12 title game will get one spot and likely eliminate the other, while there seems to be no chance of Ohio State moving up from No. 6 given that it will not be playing in its conference championship game and has no more games on its schedule.

Alabama down in the No. 8 spot will be the team to watch.

If it can beat No. 1 Georgia in the SEC championship game that would give the Crimson Tide a major win and a very impressive resume overall. But would it be enough to move them up four spots in one week? And ahead of a 13-0 Florida State team without its starting quarterback? Head coach Nick Saban and Alabama fans will say yes. The committee might have other ideas.

The four-team College Football Playoff field will be announced on Dec. 3, at 12 p.m. EST following the completion of all of the conference championship games this weekend.
