Offensive lineman Matthew Bedford Ron Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Buffaloes have been on a hot streak in the transfer portal. One area that head coach Deion Sanders wanted to overhaul was the offensive line. In just a couple of weeks, Sanders has completely remade the line. However, one player decided to change his mind. Former Indiana offensive lineman Matthew Bedford announced Monday that he was decommitting from the program.

Colorado Buffaloes Lose Matthew Bedford

Bedford was a nice pickup for the Buffaloes but decided that he wanted to go elsewhere. He will be attending Oregon instead of coming to Boulder. It is unclear the exact reason, but he had this to say in a statement.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Colorado and their amazing coach, coaching staff, and community for their support and belief in me. The Colorado organization is so amazing that I made a decision too hastily before weighing all of my options.

“However, upon reflection, I believe that the University of Oregon aligns perfectly with my long-term goals and I am thrilled to join the Oregon Ducks and contribute my best on and off the football field. I’m immensely thankful for everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. The encouragement l’ve received has been a driving force, and I’m excited about the new chapter ahead.”

Unfortunate But Not Catastrophic For Colorado

It is unfortunate that Bedford changed his mind. However, there are plenty of other offensive linemen coming into the program. While having depth and talent is great, it isn’t a catastrophic loss for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes. It does show how quickly things can change in college football. Until the player is on campus and suited up, anything can happen. I wonder whether Bedford saw all the commitments and didn’t want to deal with possibly missing out on a starting role.

The Colorado Buffaloes will be a must-watch team again in 2024. Can they improve and compete for a Big 12 title?
