Dan Lanning has been in the news a lot in the past 24 hours. After Nick Saban retired yesterday, Lanning was the top candidate. There were even reports that he was in Tuscaloosa hours after the announcement though they were never confirmed. On Thursday, Lanning made a huge announcement about his coaching future at Oregon.

Dan Lanning To Remain With The Oregon Ducks

Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports was the first to break the news. Lanning tweeted a video on Thursday that confirmed his decision. The Oregon Ducks and their fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Lanning is 22-5 in his two seasons with the Ducks. He has had success in recruiting and the transfer portal as he landed former Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore this offseason. Alabama will have to look elsewhere for their new head coach.

Who’s The Favorite Now?

In terms of the odds in the betting markets, Lanning was the heavy favorite. Now that he is off the table, Lane Kiffin might become the new favorite. The head coach at Ole Miss has been able to lead the Rebels to a lot of wins and his offseason in the transfer portal has been great. Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisian is another candidate many are talking about along with Florida State head coach Mike Norvell. The Crimson Tide want to move quickly as they want recruits to know who they are coming to play for.

Dan Lanning is staying with his current program. There are so many great jobs in college football nowadays that it isn’t surprising to see coaches stay. Alabama will have to go back to the drawing board but there are still a lot of quality candidates out there.
