Now that the conclusion of the 2023 regular season has ended for the Big Ten conference, players are beginning to enter the college football transfer portal. Wide receiver, Deion Burks is entering the transfer portal following the Purdue Boilermakers 4-8 season. The announcement of this is on his X account, which can be read in full here. Here is a look back at Burks’ time at Purdue.

Deion Burks’ Time With Purdue

The wide receiver did not have a bad season by any means. It may have been only a couple of receptions per game but with an average of 13.4 yards per reception. This year, he played in all 12 games. This season, his 47 receptions will go down for 629 yards and seven touchdowns, according to Sports Reference. Purdue was not the best team this season, but Burks still managed to play well.

In 2021, Burks played in just four games. By 2022, his playing time began to improve, especially with Purdue leading the Big Ten in the West that year. In his three years, he will go down as having 63 receptions for 804 yards. Something that stands out about his 2023 season is that all of his touchdowns are from this year, showing signs of growth in his game.

Future of Deion Burks

After officially enrolling at Purdue in 2021, he only had playing time in four games. This means that he has only been a part of two full seasons. He may not be the tallest receiver, but he is notably a strong athlete. Burks makes sure that he can get open for the ball, and when he has it, he makes sure to make the most of it.

There are teams out there who need more wide receivers, and Burks will definitely be a name to watch for in the portal. He does have experience rushing the ball, though he is primarily used as a receiver. Purdue did not have the best season, but Burks now has the opportunity to move somewhere that he could showcase his talent even more.
