The Ohio State Buckeyes have the best wide receiver room in the country yet again. Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, the already quite legendary five star freshman Jeremiah Smith, and a bevy of elite talents with four and five star pedigree galore.

The buzz all spring long has been surrounding incoming true freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith (and for good reason). He is going to be special. But today at the Buckeyes' spring game Egbuka reminded everyone that he is still the best wide receiver on the team (at least for now).

The offense had a rather unimpressive game overall (with the young guns throwing a few interceptions), but the highlight play of the day came on a beautiful one-handed catch made by Emeka Egbuka (as you can see in the post below). Some are quick to forget just how special Egbuka's 2022 performance was alongside Marvin Harrison Jr., but he certainly hasn't forgotten.

Will Howard was the quarterback who side stepped the pass rush and made the tough throw to Egbuka on the sideline. Howard himself had a pretty good day, completing nine of his 13 throws for about 80 yards. But everyone will remember Egbuka's catch more than anything else.

For those that don't remember, Egbuka went off for over 1200 yards from scrimmage and a dozen scores back in 2022. It wasn't just volume either. Egbuka averaged 2.81 yards per team pass attempt and 0.23 EPA per team pass attempt (both on par with typical first round wide receiver prospects).

And if it weren't for last season's struggles with injury here and there Egbuka would be headed to the first round of the NFL Draft later this month. Thankfully for the Buckeyes, Egbuka is back, and looking perhaps more special than ever.

After today's spring game it's quite clear that the starting three wide receivers will be Egbuka, Carnell Tate, and Jeremiah Smith. Carnell Tate should certainly break out in year two after putting up an impressive showing last season as a true freshman, catching 18 balls. And Jeremiah Smith still looks like some hybrid between Marvin Harrison Jr. and Julio Jones. Smith will definitely be getting his fair share of opportunities. But Buckeyes fans should find comfort in knowing that--at least for now--they have a wide receiver in Emeka Egbuka who is even better.
