Georgia Southern is making an addition to its coaching staff ahead of spring practice. On Thursday, the program announced that head coach Clay Helton was hiring former Florida State and West Virginia quarterback, Clint Trickett, as tight ends and inside receivers coach, as well as the pass game coordinator.
Trickett joins the Eagles after three years at Marshall. His tenure with the Thundering Herd in November ended after he was fired from his role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The program recorded the second-most turnovers in the country while surrendering 30 sacks during the regular season. Trickett served as wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator prior to taking over as OC for the last two seasons.
The up-and-coming coach is looking to bounce back during his stint at Georgia Southern.

"Coach Helton has been synonymous with top offenses everywhere he's been, and I'm excited to work under him and Coach . I know the tremendous pride and traditions of this program run deep, and I am honored to be able to get this program back to the championship level that Eagle Nation is accustomed to."
Trickett previously coached at East Mississippi Community College and Florida Atlantic. He served as a tight ends coach (2017-19) and quarterbacks coach (2020) while in Boca Raton under former head coaches Lane Kiffin and Willie Taggart. Trickett was featured on Netflix's Last Chance U while at EMCC from 2015-16.
The son of legendary offensive line coach Rick Trickett, the younger Trickett signed with Florida State in 2010 as a quarterback out of local North Florida Christian High School. He backed up starting quarterback EJ Manuel for most of his time with the Seminoles. Trickett did start two games in 2011 after Manuel was injured before ultimately transferring to West Virginia after three years in Tallahassee.
Trickett completed 66/106 passes for 947 yards with seven touchdowns to four interceptions at Florida State. He was plagued by injuries with the Mountaineers, ultimately retiring from football due to concussions. Trickett had a successful stint at West Virginia, completing 404/652 passes for 4,890 yards with 25 touchdowns to 17 interceptions.
