Interlake High School, located between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish, has sent a lot of football players to the University of Washington through the years, most prominently quarterback Steve Pelluer and linebacker Jim Mora Jr.

So it seems only right the Huskies would offer something in return in former UW and NFL running back Lavon Coleman, who on Tuesday announced he was Interlake's new football coach.

"I will do everything I can to ensure that our program adds value to our athletes' lives and that they leave equipped with the proper tools to excel in all aspects of life," he said in a social-media post.

These high school Saints will be led by a Lompoc, California, native who played five seasons in Montlake, appearing in 51 Husky games and starting five in 2013-17.

Sharing the Husky running-game responsibilities with Myles Gaskin, the school's all-time leading rusher, Coleman came up with an 181-yard game against Arizona and finished the season with 852 yards in 2016, and provided a 3-touchdown outing against UCLA in 2017 among his career highlights.

Undrafted, he pursued the NFL and went to camp with the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers, plus he tried to catch on with the XFL's Seattle Dragons and Spring League's TSL Jousters.

Coleman's efforts landed him in the NFL record book as an official player. He appeared in one regular-season game for the Packers in 2018, drawing eight special-teams plays in a 44-38 overtime victory over the New York Jets in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

A married father of three, Coleman previously coached football at McFarland Middle School in Othello, Washington.
