Alabama may be zeroing in on its next offensive coordinator as Tommy Rees will interview for the position, according to college football insider Chris Low.

Rees currently serves as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Notre Dame since the 2020 season.

Rees has "emerged as the top target," according to Low.

Alabama is seeking to replace Bill O'Brien, who departed the offensive coordinator position this offseason to return to the NFL.

Alabama has had five different offensive coordinators in the last seven seasons and is seeking to hire its sixth in eight seasons.

Tommy Rees at Notre Dame

Rees was quarterbacks coach for the Fighting Irish from 2017 to 2019 and played the quarterback position for the school from 2010 to 2013.

Notre Dame ranked No. 60 overall this past season in offensive production, amassing 5,150 total yards, averaging 5.92 yards per play, scoring 50 all purpose touchdowns, and posting 396.2 yards per game on average.

Notre Dame was ranked at No. 39 overall nationally in terms of total offensive efficiency, according to the metrics created by Football Outsiders.

Notre Dame's offense has shown progress during Rees' tenure as coordinator but the unit was consistently held back by substandard quarterback play.
