Five Alabama players enter transfer portal after national championship loss

A day after Alabama lost 33-18 against Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship, five Crimson Tide players showed up in the transfer portal. The good news for Alabama is that the list of players includes few who contributed at all for the team in 2021.

Tight end Jahleel Billingsley, linebacker Drew Sanders, quarterback Paul Tyson, offensive lineman Tommy Brown, and linebacker King Mwikuta all entered the portal Tuesday afternoon.

Billingsley is likely to get the most interest of the group. The reserve tight end was a four-star recruit out of high school and caught three touchdown passes in each of the last two seasons. He entered 2021 as a preseason All-SEC selection, but played behind Cameron Latu who transitioned from defensive end to tight end and didn't get involved on offense until this year.

Sanders is a versatile athlete who was a five-star recruit out of high school and has been a consistent contributor for the Crimson Tide on special teams.

Alabama currently has the No. 2 ranked 2022 recruiting class on 247Sports.
