Five-star 2024 receiver Cameron Coleman commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M may be just 13-11 in the last two seasons, but that has not stopped the Aggies from rolling on the recruiting trail. That continued Tuesday.

In a welcome bit of holiday news for head coach Jimbo Fisher and company, five-star 2024 wideout Cameron Coleman verbally committed to Texas A&M via Twitter. Coleman, a native of Phenix City, Ala., is the No. 3 receiver and No. 11 overall prospect in his class, per the 247Sports Composite.

At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, the Central High School senior is the total package. Coleman is a skilled route runner, possesses impressive ball skills and is a willing downfield blocker. Sam Khan Jr. of The Athletic noted that “it’s easy envision him lining up on the outside and being an issue for opposing SEC cornerbacks, particularly in the red zone.”

Given that tantalizing repertoire, it is highly conceivable that Coleman develops a prominent role within the Aggie offense as an underclassman.

With his commitment, Coleman immediately becomes the highest-rated commit in Texas A&M’s 2024 class. Add the fact that the Aggies beat out the likes of Auburn, Clemson and LSU, and this is certainly a major pickup for Fisher and his staff.

But recruiting is one thing. The on-field product is another. Despite bringing in the top 2022 class in the country, Texas A&M slumped to a deflating 5-7 season in 2022. Plus, outside of a 9-1 2020 — which ended in an Orange Bowl triumph – Fisher is yet to live up to the expectations that come with what is currently a 10-year, $94.5 million contract (a deal that went into effect last year).

That being said, a strong 2023 will go a long way towards flipping the script in Fisher's seventh season.

The Aggies’ 2024 class is now ranked ninth nationally, per the 247Sports Composite. That ranks third in the SEC, behind Georgia (first) and Florida (third) and just ahead of LSU (10th) and Tennessee (12th).
