Florida football entered the off-season with a lot of holes to fill through the transfer portal. They’ve already landed two linebackers out of the Big Ten in Teradjia Mitchell (Ohio State) and Deuce Spurlock (Michigan). Now, they add some beef to the trenches.

Micah Mazzccua, an offensive guard from Baylor, announced that he’ll be coming to Gainesville for his junior season.

Mazzccua is a monstrous presence at the line of scrimmage, standing at 6’5”-331. To compare, All-American O’Cyrus Torrence is 6’5”-330. Torrence is a pretty good guy to model your game after, so why not be the exact same size as him too?

Speaking of Torrence, O’Cyrus was the only offensive guard better than Mazzccua last season. PFF had Torrence as the best guard in the country, with Micah sitting in second.

Mazzccua is a huge (literally) addition for the Gators out of the portal. He’ll come in and be a day-one starter and provide some alane to the OL.

Coming out of high school, Micah was just a three-star recruit. He was ranked as the 54th-best guard in the class of 2020, and the 832nd overall player.

It’s safe to say that Micah has surpassed the expectations that came with his star rating.

Part of what makes Micah such a dynamic player is his ability to get to the second level on run plays. His size makes it seem like he wouldn’t be able to extend and hit linebackers, but he can do just that.

Having a guard with the range of Mazzccua will make the Gators’ run game even more effective. With the one-two punch of Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson, the ground game will again be the strength of the Gators next season.

With the additions of Spurlock and Mazzccua already this week, let’s see if Napier can stay hot in the portal.
