Former Bills Pro Bowler helped Clemson nab four-star RB

The Clemson Tigers made an offer to only one running back for the 2024 class, four-star recruit David Eziomume. On Wednesday, the Tigers landed Eziomume with help from former eight-year NFL veteran and now Clemson running backs coach C.J. Spiller.

After committing to Clemson, Eziomume revealed to Jeremy Johnson of on3.com that Spiller was vital in bringing him aboard.

"He was once in the position so he knows how this goes," Eziomume said. "The longer you think about it and he's checking in on you and asking you how your week is going. It's like another one of your brothers. Knowing that your coach is going to be like your friend and be laid back is big."

Despite fielding offers from multiple schools, Eziomume decided to go with Clemson, announcing his decision via social media.

Per 24/7 Sports, 31 schools made offers to Eziomume. However, Eziomume told Johnson he was sold on Clemson following his visit in January, adding he was excited to play in the Tigers' offense and under head coach Dabo Swinney.

"I've been out and seen places but after Clemson offered me and being the only running back they've offered in the class of 2024 kind of put my head on the spot," Eziomume said. "Just knowing that having the chance to be the only back entering in as a freshman is something special."

From the jump, it's clear Clemson made every effort to ensure Eziomume felt comfortable and welcome in joining the program. And thanks to the approach from Spiller and the school, it paid dividends, helping the Tigers nab the 27th-ranked running back prospect and their sixth commit for the 2024 season.

Spiller, who has his No. 28 retired by Clemson, played eight seasons in the NFL, making the Pro Bowl with the Buffalo Bills in 2012. The 35-year-old retired in 2017, becoming a graduate intern with Clemson in 2020 before earning his current position ahead of the 2021 season.
