The college football community is mourning the loss of Cole Pensick, the former Nebraska Cornhuskers offensive lineman, who has died at the age of 32.

Pensick was involved in a car accident on Saturday morning, according to a statement by the Polk Co. (Neb.) Sheriff's Office.

The accident took place around 6:45 a.m. and Pensick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pensick was a member of the Cornhuskers' offensive line during the successful 2013 football season, when the team went 9-4 and 5-3 in the Big Ten and ranked inside the top 20 nationally in total rushing offense.

The graduate of Lincoln Northeast was versatile in his role for Nebraska, playing both at center and at guard.

He played in all 13 games and started in 12 during the 2013 season, including 11 games at center and one at guard before a knee injury kept him out of the final two games of that year.

His expert play during his senior campaign resulted in his being named a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection by the league's coaches.

Pensick was one of 19 seniors who played for Nebraska in the 2014 Gator Bowl win against Georgia.

Cole was the son of Dan Pensick, a three-year letterman for Nebraska from 1977 to 1979.

Pensick is the second Nebraska football alum to die in a car accident in recent years. Former Huskers offensive lineman Mark Pelini died in a 2014 wreck in Indiana after his truck hit a deer and collided with another car, per reports.
