Former Colorado QB commit follows Sean Lewis to San Diego State
It was expected that whatever school landed former Colorado offensive coordinator Sean Lewis would eventually land three-star quarterback Danny O'Neil from Indianapolis, Indiana (Cathedral High School).
Those expectations became a reality when O'Neil, a former commit of Deion Sanders and Colorado, announced his commitment to San Diego State University — which just recently hired Lewis as head coach.
Lewis was, predictably, a huge reason for O'Neil's commitment to San Diego State. The two had grown close while the quarterback was committed to Colorado, and that connection apparently continued once the Aztecs hired Lewis.
In fact, O'Neil seems to think that Lewis will be for SDSU what Coach Prime has been for Colorado. Apparently, some of Prime's hype has rubbed off.
"It really comes down to the people," O'Neil told 247Sports regarding his commitment. "Coach Lew, Coach Johnson and everyone else there just made it seem like home.
"Everyone will see soon that San Diego State University is going to be a premier place to be in college football."
O'Neil is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the Midwest, so it's notable that he's going to be heading to the West Coast to play college ball.
A state champion quarterback in high school, he threw for 7,786 yards and 98 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,326 yards and 27 touchdowns over the last three seasons for Cathedral.
According to the 247Sports composite, O'Neil is the No. 40 quarterback in the 2024 class.
