It’s not often you see an NFL coach flame out at the college level.  However, that is exactly what happened at Grambling State.  A traditional powerhouse amongst HBCUs, the Tigers have won 15 HBCU National Championships and 25 SWAC titles in their illustrious history.  Hall of Fame coach Eddie Robinson won 408 games during his legendary 55 year career in Grambling, Lousiana.

Former NFL Head Coach Fired After 2 Seasons at Grambling State

Hue Jackson, former Browns and Raiders head coach, was relieved of his duties after just 2 seasons as the Tigers’ HC.  While at Grambling, Jackson went 8-14 overall, but he felt like things were turning around for the program.

“You have to give it three years when you come in the first year. … I’m not just talking about Grambling but about any place,” Jackson said, “You need to make sure you understand the lay of the land. And I would have felt as though it was warranted (to be fired) if this year looked like the first year.” Also adding, “They probably didn’t think the progress was happening fast enough. They are going to make their choices and decisions,” Jackson said. “You’re not going to fight those things. That is their decision.”
