Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord’s recent entry into the transfer portal hardly surprised many observers. As the season drew to a close, it became evident that his time with the program was coming to a conclusion, and he formalized his departure prior to the bowl game.

After exploring various options, McCord ultimately chose to bring his talents to Syracuse.

While McCord has bid farewell to Ohio State, he openly affirmed that his departure was rooted in practicality, describing it as a “business decision.”

He emphasized that the realm of college football, especially as one progresses to the professional level, is intrinsically tied to business considerations. In essence, both he and Ohio State made choices they believed were in their respective best interests. McCord’s acknowledgment underscores the dynamic nature of collegiate sports and the necessity for players to make decisions aligning with their goals and ambitions.

“You guys know it just as well as I do, at the end of the day, the top level of college football and then especially onto the pros, it’s a business. At the end of the day, Ohio State had to make a business decision that they felt was best for them, and I had to do the same thing.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the Ohio State Buckeyes will navigate with Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz as the top contenders for the starting quarterback role, as McCord takes on the role of Syracuse’s starting quarterback. McCord faces the challenge of rejuvenating Syracuse’s football program after a lackluster 6-7 performance in the previous season.

In this context, Kyle McCord’s journey serves as a testament to the multifaceted nature of college football, where players must navigate both the competitive sporting aspect and the pragmatic business side of the game. His decision to pursue opportunities at Syracuse reflects his commitment to his own career path and the pursuit of success beyond the boundaries of his former team, Ohio State.
