Oklahoma running back Marcus Major is headed north.

Major announced via Twitter Sunday night that he’ll finish his college football career as a Minnesota Golden Gopher.

Major, a fifth-year senior from Oklahoma City’s Millwood High School, had the best year of his OU career in 2023, with 308 yards and one touchdown on 78 carries.

He finishes his career with 833 rushing yards and scored 10 touchdowns in his five seasons as a Sooner.

Major played in seven games this season, with a career-high four starts as the Sooners searched the ranks for a starter at running back.

But Major missed the last five games of 2023 due to injury.

Major played in three games in 2019 10 games (one start) in 2020, six games in 2021, and nine games in 2022. The 6-foot, 224-pound Major battled numerous injuries throughout his career and in 2021 missed games after an academic snafu cost him his eligibility.

Major’s career highlight was the 2020 Cotton Bowl victory over Florida, when he rushed nine times for a career-high 110 yards in a blowout victory over the Gators at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The following year, Major contributed 54 yards on 10 carries in the Alamo Bowl victory over Oregon.

Also in 2020, Major ran 12 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in a four-overtime victory over Texas.

Coming out of Millwood, Major was ESPN’s 248th-ranked prospect in the country. ESPN and Rivals rated him as a 4-star player, while 247 Sports rated him 3-stars. He was the No. 16 running back in the country, according to Rivals, and was No. 17 among running backs by ESPN and No. 29 by 247 Sports.

Major chose OU over Arkansas, USC, Texas and others.

He finished his career at OU with 527 career offensive snaps, including a career-high 215 this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

He’s among 20 players on this season’s roster who have left early either via the portal or declaring for the NFL Draft.
