Former OSU standout says Ryan Day has 'gotta go' after loss to Michigan

Following another loss to rival Michigan, the heat is on Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, even from those who used to don a Buckeyes uniform.

After OSU fell to their rival 30-24 on Saturday for the third-straight time under Day, former running back and 2002 BCS National Championship hero Maurice Clarett took to social media to vent his frustrations while calling for the head coach's job.

Clarett did say he loved Day before sticking the knife in his back, so that's something. However, it was also quite a change in attitude. Hours before, an optimistic Clarett said he had Day's back after OSU showed "some fight" early against Michigan.

The former star running back made a point of highlighting Day's pay, which is significant. According to USA Today, Day ($10.2M) is the fourth-highest-paid head coach this season behind only Georgia's Kirby Smart ($10.7M), Clemson's Dabo Swinney ($10.8M) and Alabama's Nick Saban ($11.4M). Evidently, that price is too high for Clarett, especially considering Day's record against Michigan.

Day has had a spectacular tenure as OSU HC, going 56-7 overall. However, he's been unable to solve Michigan, and unfortunately for Day and the Buckeyes, that game tends to mean a little more than matchups against Indiana or Youngstown State.

After another loss, this time sans Jim Harbaugh on the Michigan sidelines, Day is 1-3 against the big, bad wolf. Even when they were ripe for the picking, Day couldn't finish the job and there may be no coming back this time.

OSU is unlikely to part ways with Day, but he might seek greener, more lucrative pastures. According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Texas A&M may take a shot a Day, adding that following a loss in Ann Arbor, "he might be more open to listening to A&M's pitch."
