Former Texas quarterback thinks Arch Manning can handle the pressure

It can't be easy being Arch Manning, but then again, you'd think he'd be used to it at this point.

Not only is he the nephew of Eli Manning and Peyton Manning and the grandson of Arch Manning, but he was the consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class and arguably the future of Texas Longhorns football.

Talk about pressure.

Someone who knows a bit about the pressure of playing in Austin is Colt McCoy, who was a four-year starter and two-time All-American for the Longhorns from 2006 to 2009.

For what it's worth, from what McCoy sees in the young quarterback, he believes the young Manning should be able to handle the pressure of his station.

“I’ve been around Arch quite a bit,” McCoy recently said on the "Pardon My Take" podcast (h/t On3). “Going back to spring practices like I remember when I was helping sort of like recruit him to UT. Now listen, I’m not taking any credit for that at all. I just was around a little bit. He was so much more prepared and ready and mature then I was when I came on campus."

McCoy went on to explain that Manning knew Texas playbook even before he signed as a freshman and got onto campus. The young quarterback has also displayed maturity beyond his age.

So much so that McCoy feels that Manning will be able to live up to the expectations at Texas. He also thinks that being able to redshirt this season – Manning only appeared in two games – will be a benefit to the young quarterback moving forward.

“I think he’s gonna handle it all well," McCoy said. "Like, I know he wants to play and he’s got a chance to sit and watch Quinn … So he’s got a good picture of what it’s supposed to look like and whenever he gets his chance, I know that this year will be very, I’ve told him I said the best thing that ever happened to me was redshirting."
