Jason Robinson Jr. is headed to Seattle on a fact-finding mission.
The four-star wide receiver out of Long Beach Poly begins his official visit on Thursday to the University of Washington. It’ll be the first time Robinson has stepped foot on campus along with his younger brother, Jadyn, a recruit in the 2025 class.
“Really just knowing they have all the tools and all the right people around that can get me to the next level,” Robinson said, specifically referencing WR coach JaMarcus Shephard.
“He [Shephard] has the receipts. What he’s done with the receivers recently is incredible and that’s something I want to be a part of.”
Robinson, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound bundle of electricity, grew up idolizing former Husky speedster John Ross and got the opportunity to meet him years ago. Although Ross and Robinson attended different high schools in Long Beach there are similarities between the two.
“That used to be my favorite receiver because I’m a (Cincinnati) Bengals fan,” Robinson said of the ex-Husky and 2017 first-round pick. “That was my idol. He was fast. That was my biggest thing — if you can run a fast 40 as a kid, I thought you were automatically the best.”
Ross still holds the NFL Combine record with his 4.22 40-yard dash time despite having an up and down career to date in the league. If Robinson can even get close to having the impact that Ross did, it’ll be a major victory for UW.
“Really just being an electrifying player every time I step on the field and make everybody want to be better and elevate their game,” Robinson said, when asked to describe his game at receiver.
“Being able to be that leader that takes it in his hands to start the game up, get everybody riled up. It shows through my play. Going out there making a big play off the rip first play of the game. That’s really me — always been a big playmaker.”
As a sophomore two years ago, Robinson eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards his first year on varsity and finished the season with an even dozen touchdown receptions — 63 total catches. Last fall, he played only eight games, which essentially cut his numbers in half across the board.
Robinson also made an early commitment to USC in late September 2021 under then head coach Clay Helton before backing off that pledge this past February.
Two months after Robinson reopened his recruitment, the four-star made unofficial visits to Syracuse, Penn State Notre Dame and Colorado in mid-April before he took his first official to the upstate New York school on June 9-10.
“I really like the connection that I made with the coaches and just the vibe it was when I was up there,” Robinson said of his trip to Syracuse. “Even when I took my photo shoot, the energy was real high. So I wanted to get out there for a second time so I took that OV and it didn’t disappoint. It was a great opportunity to get up there.”
To date, Washington has only one commitment in the 2024 class, four-star offensive tackle Paki Finau. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) Justice Williams is the lone receiver that has an official visit scheduled to UW this month, aside from Robinson.
Shephard hasn’t offered has younger brother Jadyn yet, though that could come after the trip this week. Five Pac-12 schools — Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Utah and Washington State — already have offered along, with Pittsburgh and Texas, to round out his Power Five offers.
