“Anybody can call me and I’m not leaving” is what Garrett Greene said when directly asked if he’s planning to return to the Mountaineers or may want to test the waters to see what else is out there for him. It doesn’t get much more emphatic than that.
The WVU quarterback said the chances of his return are “1,000 percent” while appearing on the 3 Guys Before the Game podcast to discuss the 2023 season and the future of the program.
Greene, who has been a Mountaineer sine 2020, still has one more year of eligibility remaining. He just completed his first full season as the starting quarterback after previously serving as a backup behind transfers like Jarret Doege and JT Daniels.
Throughout the 2023 season, one that did see him miss some time due to injury, Greene passed for 2,178 yards, ran for 708 more and recorded 28 touchdowns with only five turnovers.
He earned a 90.8 grade from PFF for the season, which places him in the top 10 among Power Five quarterbacks. Greene capped off the season by being named the Manning Award QB of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
WVU head coach Neal Brown made his feelings about his quarterback crystal clear after a win, calling him the “ultimate competitor” and saying he gives West Virginia a chance to win every game.
Not that there was much worry, but knowing Greene is locked in helps to reduce some of the worry about retaining key players.
