Georgia HC Kirby Smart comments on DB being charged with seven misdemeanors

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart was candid when asked by the media on Monday about defensive back Javon Bullard, who was arrested on Sunday and charged with seven misdemeanors including a DUI while under age.

"I hate it for him," Smart said, noting that decisions for disciplining Bullard will be handled internally. "He made some poor decisions."

According to a police report obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald, Bullard was pulled over at 3 a.m. because he was driving without his headlights on and swerving into oncoming traffic. Upon being pulled over, the 20-year-old sophomore said he did not have his driver's license on him and was then unable to write down his name and date of birth. Police then asked him to exit the car, at which point he "appeared to lose his balance and stumble against the open door of his vehicle."

Bullard registered blood alcohol levels of 0.143 and 0.148 on a breath test, according to the report. He was then charged with "DUI, driving without headlights, a hands-free phone violation, failure to maintain lane, improper turn, not having his license on him, and underage possession of alcohol," according to the Banner-Herald.

"We are limited in what we can say, but the report is disappointing and is not reflective of our standards," the school said in a statement to CBS Sports. "In addition to University disciplinary processes, we will address the incident internally according to Athletic Association policies."

Bullard tallied three tackles on Saturday in Georgia's 39-22 win over Kent State. Fellow defensive back Tykee Smith is expected to take over for Bullard next weekend against Missouri in the event Bullard is not able to play.
