Georgia State QB Mikele Colasurdo cleared to play after coronavirus-related health concern

Georgia State freshman quarterback Mikele Colasurdo has been cleared to play this fall after he was initially thought to be dealing with myocarditis following a bout with the coronavirus.

Colasurdo was initially ruled out in August when it was thought he was suffering from the coronavirus-related condition known to cause sudden cardiac arrest. Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), additional examinations showed that Colasurdo has no known heart ailment that puts him at additional risk when partaking in football activities.

Per a statement released by Georgia State, Colasurdo said:

"I'm very thankful to be able to put this behind me and return to the game I love. I really appreciate all the support from our coaches and our trainers and medical staff for all they are doing to protect our health. I'm excited to be back on the field."

On Aug. 31, The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach reported that the Big Ten and Pac-12 elected to postpone football and other fall sports after learning that a study conducted by Ohio State Director of Sports Cardiology Dr. Curt Daniels linked cases of myocarditis among student-athletes with coronavirus infections.

Georgia State begins its season versus the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sept. 19.
