Georgia's JT Daniels 'likely' to miss UAB game with oblique injury?

Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback JT Daniels may be a spectator for Saturday's home opener against the UAB Blazers.

ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III told "The Paul Finebaum Show" Friday that Daniels is questionable for Saturday's matchup because he's dealing with an oblique injury.

"They're not sure if he's going to go," Griffin said about Georgia coaches. "But they've given him time off this week to heal. He feels like it's progressed well."

However, Seth Emerson of The Athletic reported Daniels is "likely" to sit this weekend so that he can heal and prepare for the conference portion of the schedule. Emerson added that Daniels' setback is considered mild.

Interestingly, ESPN named redshirt freshman Carson Beck as the favorite to start Saturday if Daniels can't go. Emerson, meanwhile, said Stetson Bennett IV was next on the depth chart. Bennett completed 86-of-155 passes for 1,179 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions with 54 rushing yards and two scores on 24 attempts last season.

It's also possible Daniels could start and then be replaced by either or both quarterbacks.

Georgia hosts the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sept. 18.
