Hawaii’s football program has suffered some tough losses early in the season. Timmy Chang’s team was looking to build off a good win against Duquesne. However, the Rainbow Warriors got punched in the mouth by New Mexico State. The Aggies handed the Warriors a 45-26 loss. Hawaii could not answer the bell and was knocked on the mat after 4 quarters. The loss was tough because it was a conference game.

The Good

Hawaii had struggled offensively in their previous games. However, the Warriors and offensive coordinator Ian Shoemaker designed a good game plan. Hawaii recorded 411 yards of offense and Dedrick Parson continued to shine. Parson finished the game with 16 rushes for 69 yards and scored twice. Parson plays a significant role in Hawaii’s offense and has played well this season.

Brayden Schager returned to action against New Mexico State. Schager finished the game going 22-39, passed for 261 yards, and threw a touchdown. Even though Hawaii lost the game, the offense played well and can continue to improve during the rest of the season.

The Bad

It takes offense, defense, and special teams to win games. Jacob Yoro’s defense played the pass well. Gavin Frakes finished the game going 8-14, passing for 81 yards, threw a touchdown and an interception.

Hawaii struggled to contain the running game. The Aggies offense recorded 357 rushing yards. Hawaii’s defense didn’t fill their gaps. Additionally, Hawaii didn’t play sound on defense. Limiting rushing yards would have helped Hawaii secure their second victory of the season.
