Hawaii’s football program is going through growing pains this season. Timmy Chang’s team has suffered multiple losses and most recently lost to Colorado State 17-13 . Chang’s team hasn’t been able to put games together on both sides of the ball. However, running back Dedrick Parson has provided a silver lining for a team that needs it. Parson has had a productive season and has been Hawaii’s main weapon.

Dedrick Parson deserves to have the spotlight shined on him. Parson’s team voted him captain and has been a good teammate for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

Impact on Hawaii’s offense

As mentioned above Parson is Hawaii’s main weapon for Offensive Coordinator Ian Shoemaker.  This season, Parson has carried the ball 120 times, rushed for 543 yards, and scored 10 touchdowns. Additionally, Dedrick Parson is averaging 4.5 yards a carry. Parson has the most all-purpose yards behind Brayden Schager. Parson currently has 308 more yards than leading wideout Zion Bowens.

When Hawaii has needed a play, Parson has delivered. Against the Nevada Wolfpack Parson carried the ball 24 times, rushed for 136 yards, and scored three touchdowns. Simply put Parson is the man for Hawaii’s offense and deserves credit.

Prior Stops

Parson attended Howard University before transferring to Hawaii. While attending Howard Parson recorded 1,553 rushing yards, 409 receiving yards, and scored 12 touchdowns according to Hawaii Athletics.  Parson played on special teams and averaged 17 yards on kickoffs. Parson returned four punts and averaged 20.5 yards.

Dedrick Parson joined Hawaii in 2021. During the 2021 season, Parson rushed for 618 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He also averaged 5.2 yards per carry and suited up for 13 games. Parson has produced for his teams and has displayed his talents.
