Iowa Football and Lincoln-Way East High have enjoyed a strong relationship through the years. The Frankfort, Ill. high school sent the Hawkeyes Adam Gettis almost 20 years ago and 2024 offensive lineman Josh Janowski signed with them last month.

Junior tight end Trey Zvonar was aware of that history when he attended an Iowa junior day this past weekend. He witnessed similarities between Lincoln-Way East and Iowa during the stop.

"Iowa would be a good fit in terms of it's just like my school the way they hold us accountable," Zvonar told HN. "We've had many players go through Iowa from Lincoln-Way East and love it . It also has the rich tight-end tradition there."

The Hawkeye culture stood out to Zvonar during the visit, he said.

"Being there with the coaches and the staff was really great. Everyone was awesome, and it just felt like an amazing place to be," Zvonar said.

According to Max Preps, Zvonar caught 14 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in eight games last fall. His junior highlights illustrated his versatility as a dangerous receiver that can line up in various places depending on formation. He proved he's a willing and able blocker with room to grow in that aspect of the game as he develops physically.

Zvonar (6-4, 215) reports scholarship offers from a half dozen MAC schools along with serval FCS programs. He appreciates the communication he's receiving from the Hawkeyes about where he stands with them.

"The talks with (tight end) coach (Abdul) Hodge and the other coaches were great. They told me to stay patient because they are a longer process. They see my development and will be following me throughout the spring," he said.

Northwestern is in frequent contact with Zvonar, he said. He's also communicating with Illinois, Michigan State, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo regularly.

"I'll be visiting more schools in the spring," he said.

Zvonar is leaning toward majoring in Finance when he gets to college.

"I heard it's very good at Iowa," he said.
