Holiday Bowl officially canceled; NC State gets trophy by default
One day after UCLA had to withdraw from the San Diego Credit Union Holiday Bowl amid COVID-19 concerns, the game was officially canceled because a replacement team to face North Carolina State could not be determined.
Additionally, NC State was awarded the Holiday Bowl trophy by default.
There was a mad dash to find a replacement for UCLA when the team withdrew from the game with just a little over four hours to go until kick-off.
It was also reported UCLA didn't give NC State much warning after deciding to withdraw from Tuesday's game, which led to some harsh criticism from coach Dave Doeren.
According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the Wolfpack talked to "upwards of 10 teams" in trying to find a replacement for the Bruins.
NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan issued a statement thanking the players shortly after the game was officially called off.
