Earlier this spring, Nebraska football was interested in a transfer portal running back. It didn’t work out but on Tuesday, another running back entered the portal — Colorado’s Dylan Edwards — and the Huskers are already among those programs in the mix.

Edwards, who is from Kansas, had an offer from Nebraska football coming out of high school. Kansas State and Notre Dame were the top teams in his recruitment. Notre Dame got a commitment, but Deion Sanders was able to flip Edwards, who was ranked No. 229 overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Edwards was a backup for the Buffaloes last season but proved he’s capable of being a playmaker. He averaged 4.2 yards per attempt on 76 carries. He also caught 36 passes for 399 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns.

The freshman had five receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against TCU on a 75-yard touchdown.

Like many other Colorado players, Edwards entered the portal this spring, and according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, he’s “hearing a lot” about Kansas State, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Assessing Nebraska football chances of landing Dylan Edwards

If I had to make a prediction, Kansas State seems like the team to beat. Edwards was tight with Avery Johnson who is now the K-State starting quarterback. That would be a dangerous combination.

However, with the Nebraska offensive line and commitment to running the ball, the Huskers make sense too. I also can’t get the idea of Dylan Raiola throwing the ball to Edwards out of my head. Rahmir Johnson is a talented pass catcher but I don’t know that he’s on the same level as Edwards.

It would be a luxury and could cause some heartache in the running back room, but if you have a chance to land a dude like Edwards you at least try. You have to.
