Jalen Milroe appreciates significance of being Alabama's starting QB

There's been a ton of change at Alabama over the past month, but quarterback Jalen Milroe has stayed consistent.

It can be argued that consistency is why Nick Saban ultimately gave him the full-time starting job heading into SEC play last season. Not only is Milroe a consistently talented player, but he stepped up and proved to be a leader for the Tide.

That's what any team wants out of its quarterback, but it's especially important right now at Alabama as the program transitions from the now-retired Saban to Kalen DeBoer.

Being the quarterback is essentially being the face of the program. The good news? That's the kind of pressure Milroe is happy to take on.

“You’re held to a high standard being a quarterback at Alabama. I wear it with pride, you know? That is something that always don’t forget is that, you know, I have a lot of pride wearing the A because it means a lot in the resources behind wearing the A, it sets you up for your next 40 after college," Milroe recently said, per On3

Although it remains to be seen what kind of success the Tide have in the post-Saban era, the fact remains that the legendary coach built a juggernaut. Alabama is arguably the biggest brand in college football, and that's not going to go away anytime soon — especially if DeBoer's results at Washington translate to the SEC.

It's a great situation to be in as a player, both now and in the future. That's seemingly not something Milroe takes for granted.

“That is something that was important for me through the recruiting process to now be able to be the starting quarterback at the University of Alabama’s a true blessing. And I’m so proud of that. And that don’t go unnoticed, you know?” Milroe explained. “And that’s something I try to harp on the guys in the locker room that realize where you’re at. And don’t take it for granted, you know, because we’re blessed to be in the situation we’re in right now.”
