James Madison will remain undefeated after hosting South Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Dukes to 5-0 on the season and gives them their 50th home victory over the last seven seasons.

Despite a scoreline of 31-23, JMU was  dominant for most of the game. The nation's best rushing defense once again stood tall, allowing South Alabama to net a total of just 27 yards in that category. This came out to an average of just 1.1 yards per carry, a category in which they also lead the nation. Sophomore linebacker Trent Hendrick led the way for the Dukes' defense with 11 total tackles. Senior defensive lineman Jalen Green also contributed an interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Offensively, JMU QB Jordan McCloud finished the day with 12 completions on 22 attempts for 241 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Two of those touchdown passes were to tight end Zach Horton, who finished with three catches for 116 yards.

James Madison are still in the second year of their transitionary period from FCS to FBS. As a result, they will not be eligible for a Sun Belt title or for postseason play until next year. However, if a team with a bowl-eligible record is deemed ineligible due to poor academics or any other reason, JMU would receive consideration if they also produce a bowl-eligible record.

The Dukes will continue their season on October 14 against Georgia Southern, as they look for their ninth consecutive victory dating back to last season.
