LaJohntay Wester made it official and will join Deion Sanders and Colorado next season. The former FAU wide receiver announced he'll be transferring via social media on Tuesday morning. A few days following a plea from Shedeur Sanders to have him in Boulder.
Wester is coming off his best year at Florida Atlantic and looks to build off that success. One of his biggest supporters, who has been with him throughout the entire process, is his younger brother, Jaylen. The former Owls linebacker is excited to see LaJohntay head to Colorado and knows he's in a great situation with Sanders leading the Buffaloes offense.
"(LaJohntay) brings a dog mentality," Wester told BuffsBeat. "It's not about how big you are. It all comes down to what's inside."
Wester, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound receiver, has never been doubted about his potential. He racked up 108 receptions last year, which was second among FBS receivers, along with 1,168 receiving yards (14th) and eight touchdowns (T-33rd). A multi-faceted specialist who was named on the 2023 FWAA All-America team as a punt returner. He's been a consistent threat at FAU after being an unrated recruit from Palmetto (Florida) as part of the 2020 recruiting class.
All of that didn't matter for LaJohntay. He just went out and competed as a student of the game, trying to get better at every turn. As a reminder, the star wideout wears a C.F.N. (Came From Nothing) diamond chain. Jaylen, who's one of three Wester brothers from Florida Atlantic, knows LaJohntay is built to thrive under a bigger spotlight.
"He's an electrifying kid with a good spirit, and that Florida boy swag," Wester said. "Being able to create openings for teammates around him and also showing leadership."
Sanders and the Buffs are still stacking up via the transfer portal. Jaylen is currently in the portal and might be Boulder bound as well. However, he wouldn't say whether or not it was an option. If that does happens, it would be the first time in modern FBS history that a team will feature a group of three brothers. Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, along with Destin and Keaten Wade are the other sets of siblings for Colorado.
Outside of that factor, Coach Prime has once again tapped into the Florida pipeline. Wester is the third CU transfer with ties to the Sunshine State from this period. He has a year of eligibility remaining on the books.
