Jeff Sims is entering his first year at Nebraska after three years at Georgia Tech as he appears to be in line to be the Cornhuskers’ starting quarterback this fall.

But before Sims even has a chance to step onto the football field, he has already earned an NIL deal with AKRS Equipment — a John Deere dealership that has 27 locations across Nebraska and Kansas.

“AKRS Equipment is proud to have a great partnership with Husker QB, Jeff Sims. Excited to support him and all Husker athletes this fall,” AKRS said in the announcement.

Nebraska is well known for its farming and agriculture, so it comes as no surprise that Sims’ latest NIL deal comes with a local tractor dealership group.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has discussed his intentions to acquire talent via the transfer portal in the past, which could end up being a good situation for Sims.

“I think the biggest thing is recognizing that it’s still about making sure that young people have a good experience,” Rhule said. “Making sure that you have a plan for them. A vision for them. And then that your current players can speak to, ‘Hey, you know what they say is true.’ That’s the No. 1 thing for me.

“For us, going to the Transfer Portal, knowing that there’s some players out there that either knew us from our previous staffs or recognized us from the NFL — that obviously helped us as we try to get the program back to where it needs to be.”
