Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Jimbo Fisher just stole a top recruit from Louisville even after Jeff Brohm hiring

The good news for the Lousiville Cardinals is that they didn't have to wait long to replace Scott Satterfield. In fact, they arguably upgraded the position by hiring Jeff Brohm away from Purdue.

The bad news for Louisville is even the hiring of Brohm couldn't keep five-star 2023 running back Rueben Owens from de-committing and going elsewhere. One of the top recruits in the nation, and the top running back in the nation, per 247Sports, Owens de-committed from Louisville and on the same day committed to Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies.

From nearby El Campo, Texas, Owens told 247Sports that growing up in the area was a big reason why he decided to commit to the Aggies. He also likes the vibe of College Station.

“I like that it’s a football town,” he said. “They all love the Aggies. And where I come from, 90 percent of the town is Aggies. I’m going to have everybody behind me watching me play so it’s going to be a good experience."

Owens rushed for 1,785 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior at El Campo High, so the Aggies are getting a player who certainly has a nose for the end zone.

Perhaps the only challenge for the Aggies regarding Owens is keeping his commitment. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound high school senior had previously committed to the Texas Longhorns before his commitment to Louisville, so he has done a bit of jumping around.

With that said, 247Sports reports that Owens is planning on graduating high school early and enrolling at Texas A&M in January, so this seems to be a pretty much sealed deal for the Aggies.
