Former Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Julian Fleming will spend his final year of eligibility sporting different colors.
After four years playing in a Scarlet and Gray uniform, the Buckeyes receiver has announced he will finish his college career with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
“My family’s there,” Fleming said. “Grandfather is getting older and my sisters are growing up. So them being able to only be an hour away and come to all the games was important to me.”
The Catawissa, Pennsylvania native recorded 270 yards this season on just 26 receptions. Aside from his first season in 2020, this year was the first in which Fleming did not record a touchdown.
Fleming entered the transfer portal in early December, along with some of his other teammates. Starting quarterback Kyle McCord, running back Chip Trayanum, and offensive tackle Jakob James were among those who elected to make another go of things at a different school.
Ohio State will look to make things work with their pipeline of young talent, as Fleming's departure leaves them with a very small veteran presence. Sophomore receiver and Heisman finalist Marvin Harrison Jr. has yet to declare if he will return to the Buckeyes for 2024.
Fleming will play host to his former teammates when Ohio State travels to Penn State on November 2, 2024. This battle between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions should be an interesting reunion between the two schools, especially with the status of each team's record and standing entering the late-season contest.
