Alabama will be looking for new leads in its running backs room this season after the departure of Jase McClellan (NFL) and Roydell Williams (Florida State). But early indications may be showing that the Crimson Tide will be leaning on one of its highly regarded young backs.

On Wednesday during Alabama’s second practice of spring football, sophomore running back Justice Haynes led his position group through drills during the media viewing period. Typically during practice, presumed starters are the ones who lead drills for the Crimson Tide making the development a bit more significant.

Haynes appeared in all 13 games during his freshman season in 2023 primarily in a role on special teams and as a reserve running back. In his opportunities on offense, Haynes totaled 25 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Although he was the leader through drills that doesn’t mean he will be the only back playing a significant role this season.

Junior running back Jam Miller who rushed for 201 yards last season is also expected to be a major impact player this fall along with five-star running back Richard Young who was one of the top-rated running backs in the 2023 class.

Alabama will return to practice on Friday for its third of 14 total spring practices ahead of A-Day.
