Kansas football has actually sold out a game for first time since 2019

Kansas is known as a basketball school. It's tough not to argue that as well, with the Rock Chalk Jayhawks boasting four national championships in program history — including a win in this past season's March Madness tournament.

Football has been a different story at Kansas. Much like at Kentucky, the football program has played second fiddle to hoops. The football Jayhawks have only made 12 bowl games since 1901. In fact, the last time Kansas was bowl eligible was in 2008, when Mark Mangino's Jayhawks beat Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

The good news for Kansas in the here and now is that bowl eligibility is only a few games away, and it's not even October yet. A season after going 2-10, head coach Lance Leipold has the Jayhawks at 3-0 with wins over Tennessee Tech, West Virginia, and Houston.

With a game against the 3-0 Duke Blue Devils up next on the schedule for Kansas, it seems as if fans are finally buying in and want to see what their team can do against a fellow undefeated team.

According to college football insider Brett McMurphy, David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium will be sold out for this game. Excitingly enough for the Jayhawks, it's the first sellout the Jayhawks have mustered since 2009 and only the program's second over the past 13 seasons.

As McMurphy points out, ESPN's College GameDay decided to go to Knoxville, Tenn. to cover No. 20 Florida against No. 11 Tennessee — proving that as always, the SEC is king of college football.
