Logan Jr named to Paycom Jim Thorpe Award watch list

Kenny Logan Jr was named to the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award watch list.  Logan Jr is one of 35 Defensive Backs on the list and one of three from the Big 12.  Also named were Julius Brents from Kansas State and Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson from TCU.

Logan was a true playmaker for the Jayhawks last season, finishing the season as the only player in the country to have at least 113 tackles, six pass breakups and multiple forced fumbles. He was named to the all Big 12 preseason team earlier this month, the only Jayhawk to make it.

Logan Jr is the first Jayhawk to make the preseason watch list since Darrell Stuckey was included back in 2009. He has led KU in tackles in the last two seasons.

Head Coach Lance Leipold on Logan Jr during Spring Football:

“He has a great personality, and again, as a leader, he continues to step up and do things that we ask of him each and every day.”

Logan, a sure tackler and one of the hardest hitting safeties in football, on his playing style at Big 12 Media days:

“I don’t care who’s on the other side of the ball. I just like to go out there and have fun and play with bad intentions for 4 quarters.”

Previous Winners

Previous winners of the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award include Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson, Eric Berry, and Patrick Peterson.  No Jayhawk has ever won the award.

Jim Thorpe was the first Native American to win a Gold Medal for the US in the Olympics.  He played Football, Baseball, and Basketball professionally after college.
