Kentucky RB Kavosiey Smoke out at least a couple of weeks with broken rib

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops told reporters on Monday that running back Kavosiey Smoke will miss at least "a couple of weeks" after he broke a rib in Saturday's 42-41 overtime loss to Ole Miss.

“He broke a rib, or cartilage in his ribs, or whatever,” Stoops said, per Josh Moore of Kentucky.com. “It’s a pretty painful injury. It just depends how long he’ll be out. We’ll see how the pain goes.”

Stoops added that Smoke suffered the rib injury on a horse-collar tackle. Smoke had five carries for 29 yards in the first half of the contest but didn't play after halftime.

Running backs Christopher Rodriguez Jr. and Asim Rose, along with quarterback Terry Wilson, all rushed for over 100 yards apiece in the one-point loss to Mississippi. Kentucky gained 408 yards with six rushing touchdowns on 56 carries in the defeat.

Smoke is fourth on the Wildcats in rushing with 91 yards on 12 attempts this season.

Moore reported that redshirt freshman Travis Tisdale or true freshman JuTahn McClain could get carries for 0-2 Kentucky in Saturday's game versus 1-1 Mississippi State.
