King of Props: 2023 AD
After ending a drought of more than 40 years without a championship in football, Georgia has a chance to go one better this season by finishing undefeated. The only obstacle standing in the way of back-to-back titles for Kirby Smart’s squad is a TCU team that far exceeded expectations in its first year under Sonny Dykes. With the Bulldogs installed as favorites by nearly two touchdowns in tonight’s tilt at SoFi Stadium, we’re expecting a revitalized playmaker to deliver our top prop:
The bet: Over 42½ receiving yards for Georgia wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (DraftKings)
As a true freshman in that first title game, Mitchell put his team ahead of Alabama to stay by catching a 40-yard touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett in the fourth quarter. Then he started this season with four receptions for 65 yards and a score in a win over 11th-ranked Oregon.
But the man called “AD” suffered a high-ankle sprain the next week and didn’t return until playing just 15 snaps in the SEC Championship Game. Appearing fully recovered in the Peach Bowl win over Ohio State, he made three catches for 43 yards and again scored the go-ahead TD. He also drew a team-high seven targets.
For all of the success that the 13-1 Horned Frogs have enjoyed this season, their pass defense could be considered a liability, ranking 92nd in yards allowed. Bennett will look to exploit it – and Mitchell figures to be on the receiving end regularly.
