Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord broke his silence Wednesday about a report that came out last month on his departure from Columbus.

McCord committed to Syracuse in mid-December after some initial flirtation with a different Power Five school.

A report from Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch came out the day after news of McCord’s transfer. The report stated that McCord left primarily due to uncertainty regarding his starting job and a lack of NIL money.

McCord called the report “BS” on Wednesday when he appeared on “The QB Room” podcast hosted by Buffalo Bills backup QB Kyle Allen and former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer.

The 21-year-old said that he only shared his reasons for leaving Ohio State with an extremely tight circle of family and friends before announcing his transfer in December. McCord then woke up the next morning to the Columbus Dispatch report listing multiple reasons for his exit.

“You read [the reasons] and it’s just a bunch of BS. They’re just kind of pulling at strings at that point. The narrative, people read that and they think that’s true and so they start believing in it and posting it and it just kind of snowballs. And when you don’t really speak up about it, it is what it is,” said McCord, via Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors.

Despite lambasting the report from Rabinowitz, McCord did admit that NIL was indeed a reason for leaving Ohio State. He also referred to his separation from the Buckeyes as a “business decision” that both sides made.

McCord threw for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns in 12 games with the Buckeyes this season.

McCord represents a clear upgrade for Syracuse over departing senior Garrett Shrader. Syracuse’s QB1 for the 2023 season threw for 1,686 yards with 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions across 11 games.
