Look: Senior Bowl players honor Mobile legend Jimmy Buffett
The Senior Bowl paid tribute to one of Mobile, Alabama's most famous residents by honoring Jimmy Buffett during Saturday's game. All players participating in the game wore parrot stickers on the back of their helmet as a tribute to the singer.
Buffett's most hardcore fans were known as "Parrotheads."
Buffett, who spent a significant portion of his childhood in Mobile, died in September after an extensive music career that saw him release 32 albums and several hit songs. While he was known for more his beach-themed and tropical songs he often spoke extensively about his roots in Mobile.
He also had several sports connections, with the Miami Dolphins briefly naming their stadium "Landshark Stadium." Landshark lager was a beer released through Buffett's Margaritaville companies and was inspired by his songs. He was also part owner of two different minor league baseball teams.
The Senior Bowl is one of college football's most significant All-Star games and is a huge part of the NFL Draft process. It features college football's top seniors and draft hopefuls every year, and is an opportunity for team's and coaching staffs to meet with prospects, work with them and evaluate them.
The game has been played in Mobile since 1951.
