LSU flips 2024 hometown CB Bernard Causey from Ole Miss

Bernard Causey received an offer from Brian Kelly and LSU in late September. It took him less than a month to decide that he wanted to stay near home and play for the Bayou Bengals.

Of course, there was the issue of the commitment to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels that he made in the summer, but especially in college football recruiting, anything can and does happen. Some commitments are meant to be broken, especially when the hometown team is showing love.

Causey, from John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans, announced his commitment to LSU a day after he committed from Ole Miss.

For Causey, a consensus three-star cornerback, it makes sense to stay home with the Tigers.

“LSU is my hometown team,” Causey told On3. “Me being a hometown hero for my family, friends, and the community stands out. I also have access to the resources that I need to succeed.”

At 6-foot, 160 pounds, Causey still has some work to do to increase his size as a college cornerback, but LSU certainly seems excited about his athleticism.

“Me and the coaching staff have been locked in,” he said. "They plan on using me as an open field cornerback.”

With the addition of Causey, Kelly's 2024 class now has 25 commitments, highlighted by four-star safety Dashawn McBryde and four-star tight end Trey'Dez Green. The 247Sports rankings feel Kelly's class is currently 12th best in the nation.
