LSU football has already successfully flipped one Texas A&M commitment after five-star offensive lineman Weston Davis revealed his pledge to Brian Kelly and the Tigers, but what happens now that Jimbo Fisher is officially out in College Station?
Kelly and Co. have turned up the heat on several Aggie commits in the 2024 cycle and this program could dive deeper into the current roster with several Louisiana natives on the team.
From current commitments to potential transfer portal moves, there could be significant shakeup in Texas A&M recruiting with LSU looking to get in on the action.
A few players to monitor:
Jacoby Mathews: Sophomore Defensive Back
The Louisiana native was down to LSU and Texas A&M during his recruitment process two years ago, and now after a pair of seasons in College Station, he’s shown he can compete on the biggest stage.
Now that Fisher is out of the picture, could we see Mathews enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and hop into the free agency market?
The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder out of Ponchatoula (La.) was a name LSU had high on the 2022 Wish List, but saw one of their top targets ultimately select the Aggies.
Now, with the Bayou Bengals in search of defensive backs for the future, Mathews could be a name to monitor down the stretch.
Terry Bussey: Five-Star Athlete
Timpson (Tex.) five-star athlete Terry Bussey is at the top of LSU’s 2024 big board and it’s no secret there is mutual interest between both parties.
For Bussey, he took an official visit to Baton Rouge in late September before ultimately committing to Fisher and the Aggies shortly after.
But the pledge didn’t stop Bussey from making a return trip to Baton Rouge. Just weeks later, Bussey traveled back down to Louisiana for an unofficial visit with Kelly and the Tigers.
It’s clear there is significant interest between LSU and Bussey’s camp, and with Fisher now fired, we could see the coveted prospect reopen his recruitment.
LSU has been high on Bussey for months. A player this program feels can come in and make an impact in all three phases of the game, the news of Fisher out in College Station could stir the pot with Bussey’s recruitment. This will be one to keep close tabs on.

Dre’lon Miller: Four-Star Wide Receiver
Four-star wide receiver Dre’lon Miller had been committed to the Aggies for quite some time, but after a visit to Baton Rouge last month, the coveted wideout reopened his recruitment with several potential suitors.
LSU, Colorado and USC all got in on the action once Miller backed off of his commitment, but the Aggies remained a team to beat.
With what appears to be an LSU vs. Texas A&M battle, we could see Miller begin positively trending the Tigers’ way now that the wheels are falling off in College Station.
Experts within the industry felt Miller would soon become a Tiger, but after dragging out the recruitment process for so long after reopening his recruitment, the coveted wideout could commit to the Aggies once again before it's all said and done.
Gabriel Reliford: Four-Star Defensive Lineman
Kelly and Co. are in need of defensive lineman for the future and Reliford is at the top of their list of prospects. The Louisiana native, and current Texas A&M commitment, is a player the LSU staff has kept tabs on for quite some time.
The Bayou Bengals have gotten Reliford down for a game day experience twice (unofficially) with an official visit still in the cards. He’s already shown interest in the Tigers, and now that Fisher is gone, LSU will likely come in full steam ahead for the coveted defensive lineman.
Reliford is another player who was expected to be in Baton Rouge on Saturday for the LSU vs. Texas A&M matchup. As it stands, his status remains up in the air.
