Mac Jones: 2020 Alabama team the best to ever play

Highly touted NFL prospect Mac Jones and the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 52-24 in the National Championship game to finish their season undefeated.

After the game, Jones gave his opinion about where the 2020 team ranks among other Crimson Tide national title-winning squads. He wasn't afraid to crown the 2020 team as the best to take the field after facing an all-SEC schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I think we're the best team to ever play," Jones said, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "There's no team that will ever play an SEC schedule like that again. At the same time, we're just so happy to have won this game and kind of put the icing on the cake."

Jones' opinion might not be wrong, either. The 22-year-old finished the 2020 campaign completing a career-high 77.4% of his passes for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns against four interceptions.

Similarly, Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith reeled in a career-high 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also had a rushing score. Najee Harris also had a breakout year, carrying the ball 251 times for 1,466 yards and 26 touchdowns with 43 receptions for 425 yards and four scores.

The players did all that while the offense averaged 48.5 points and 541.6 yards per game.

Alabama began the season ranked third on The Associated Press' preseason poll. After beating two top-10 ranked teams in Texas A&M and Georgia, the Crimson Tide quickly rose in the standings. With wins over Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State to end the season, Alabama solidified itself as one of the most talented teams to ever take the field.
