Notre Dame’s spring football practice is underway. The Fighting Irish took to the practice field for the first time this spring Thursday morning at the Irish Athletic Center, but there were a handful of players who will not be able to practice this spring due to various injuries.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman began his first spring press conference after Thursday’s practice by updating injuries to Kevin Bauman, Mitchell Evans, Aiden Gobaira, Armel Mukham, and Loghan Thomas. Freeman said all of those players will miss the entirety of the spring.
Kevin Bauman – The graduate student tight end suffered a torn ACL last August and missed the entire 2023 season. It was the second season in a row that Bauman tore his ACL. He played in just three games in 2022 as well before a torn ACL ended that season.
Mitchell Evans – The rising senior tight end tore his ACL in last October’s 58-7 win over Pittsburgh. He started seven games and played in seven prior to the season ending injury. Evans missed Notre Dame’s last five games but still led the Irish with 29 receptions for 422 yards last season.
Aiden Gobaira – Like Bauman, the rising junior defensive lineman tore an ACL during training camp last August and missed all of last season. He is yet to play in a game for Notre Dame after redshirting as a freshman in 2022.
Armel Mukham – Freeman says the rising sophomore defensive lineman tore a shoulder labrum and is currently two months post-surgery. Mukham played in one game and made two tackles against Wake Forest as a true freshman in 2023.
Loghan Thomas – Freeman says the freshman early enrollee suffered a torn shoulder labrum when he was still in high school in Ohio. Freeman said Thomas had his surgery two and a half months ago.
