Marvin Harrison Jr. joins Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr. as Heisman finalist

The Heisman finalists are set, and the biggest surprise is how right voters got it.

Quarterbacks Jayden Daniels (LSU), Bo Nix (Oregon) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) are headed to New York, as well as Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

A year after Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker was somewhat controversially left out as a finalist, there shouldn't be any major gripes about this year's class.

Daniels, Nix and Penix Jr. were obvious finalists, while Harrison Jr. was the best wide receiver in the country.

Voters deserve credit for getting the vote correct. An argument could have been made for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe after he came on strong during the second half of the season. Still, it's nearly impossible to argue he was more outstanding than Harrison Jr.

He had 67 receptions, 1,211 yards and 15 total touchdowns, including a 19-yard rushing touchdown against Michigan State.

Harrison Jr. finished the season with eight games with at least 100 receiving yards and recorded a receiving touchdown in 10 of his 12 games. In the team's two biggest conference games — against Penn State and Michigan — he had 16 receptions, 280 yards and two touchdowns.

Devonta Smith was the last wide receiver to be a Heisman finalist when he won the award in 2020. Harrison Jr. is the fifth wide receiver to be named a finalist since 2000, joining Larry Fitzgerald (2003), Amari Cooper (2014), Dede Westbrook (2016) and Smith.

He likely won't join Smith as a Heisman winner, which is expected to go to Daniels. Still, it's nice to see him accurately recognized by voters. Maybe we should let them vote for the playoff, too.
